On Friday, April 10, 2026, the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (OACDL) hosted its annual “Sex in the Spring” seminar at the University of Cincinnati Law School. We are proud to share that Brad Moermond, co-founder of Moermond & Mulligan, LLC, was featured as a primary speaker for this intensive program. This event was much more than a standard meeting, as it served as a full 6-hour CLE (Continuing Legal Education) course focused entirely on sex crime defense strategies.
This seminar serves as an essential gathering for defense attorneys across the state because it allows professionals to discuss modern tactics and share what they have learned from their most recent cases. Brad joined a respected group of speakers who spent the day focusing on the best ways to protect the rights of individuals facing serious charges. By contributing to this program, Brad helped provide fellow lawyers with the tools they need to stay current in an ever-changing legal world.
Mastering the Impact of Pretrial Motions
During his scheduled session, Brad led an in-depth discussion on the power of Pretrial Motions and how they function as the foundation of a strong defense. While many people think the most important work happens during a trial, these motions actually take place long before a jury is ever seated. A pretrial motion is a formal request for a judge to make a specific ruling, and Brad explained how these decisions can often determine the final outcome of a case.
Throughout his presentation, Brad shared his experience on several critical goals, including:
- Challenging evidence that was collected in a way that violated a person’s constitutional rights.
- Requesting a dismissal of charges if the prosecution fails to provide enough evidence to move forward.
- Establishing clear rules for the courtroom to ensure that witnesses only share fair and relevant information.
Brad’s talk focused on the practical steps of writing and arguing these motions effectively in front of a judge. By sharing these strategies with his peers, he helps ensure that defense attorneys across Ohio are prepared to challenge the prosecution’s case at every possible turn.

Brad’s role as a speaker at the University of Cincinnati highlights his dedication to professional growth and his reputation among his peers. We take the lessons learned from these high-level discussions and apply them directly to the cases we handle in our office every day.
