Nick Surkala is an associate attorney at Moermond & Mulligan, LLC, where he provides strategic, results-driven legal counsel to individuals accused of crimes.
Prior to joining the firm, Nick served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney with the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office, where he gained significant legal and trial experience. During his time as a prosecutor, he tried more than a dozen cases before Montgomery County juries as both lead counsel and co-counsel.
Nick also spent countless hours in court representing Children’s Services in abuse, neglect, and dependency matters, including significant abuse and medical neglect cases. He additionally served as the supervising attorney for the Consumer Fraud and Economic Crimes Unit, which handled complex white-collar criminal investigations. In that role, he worked closely with law enforcement agencies to investigate cases and support successful prosecutions.
Nick is known for his thoughtful approach, combining deep legal knowledge, a strong work ethic, and the ability to evaluate cases from both the defense and prosecution perspectives. Having worked on both sides of the courtroom, he is able to develop aggressive and creative defense strategies that draw upon his unique experience as a prosecutor.
Nick earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Akron School of Law, where he served as Treasurer of the Moot Court Honor Society. Prior to joining the firm, and in addition to his work as an assistant prosecuting attorney, he gained valuable experience through various common pleas court and appellate clerkships and by working as an associate at a local civil law firm. There, he handled a variety of matters, including firearms law, business and complex litigation, and real estate matters.
Nick is admitted to practice law in Ohio and is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association.
